About Us
For over 25 years, we have been breaking the cycle of transgenerational illiteracy and transforming educational outcomes across Australia.
The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation is here to create a more inclusive Australia, unlocking potential through the power of literacy and learning.
We believe that literacy is freedom. Everyone has a story to tell, and we believe they should be free to tell it with confidence.
A nation where every Australian has the literacy and numeracy skills to participate fully in education, employment, and community life.
We envision a future where no child is left behind due to lack of access to quality literacy education and resources.
Our History
The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation was established in 1999 with a clear purpose: to address the literacy crisis affecting millions of Australians.
Over the past 25+ years, we have grown from a small initiative into a national organisation running 8 programs across 376 sites throughout Australia.
Today, we reach over 17,600 children annually and have supplied more than 34,800 vital literacy and learning resources to communities in need.
The principles that guide everything we do
We work alongside communities, respecting local knowledge and empowering sustainable, community-driven change.
We champion educational equity for all Australians, regardless of background, location, or circumstance.
Our programs are grounded in research and best practice, ensuring measurable and lasting impact.
The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation acknowledges the sovereign Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work. We pay respects to the Elders, honour the wisdom-holders of the old ways, and share their ongoing passion for knowledge-seeking, sharing, and truth-telling through story.
Help us create a more inclusive Australia through the power of literacy.
